Saluki Success Plan
Upon Entry
- Review the Incoming Student Checklist here.
- Claim your network ID and get familiar with SalukiNet.
- Meet with your academic advisor. PREPARE FOR ADVISEMENT PDF
- Schedule a New Student Orientation and submit your Housing Contract (if taking courses on campus).
- Enroll in classes once registration opens. You will receive an email after the previous step is complete.
- Send academic advisor your in-progress coursework and anticipated AP or Dual Credit before your appointment.
- Take math placement exam, located in MyCourses if required by your academic unit at least 2 days before your appointment.
- Develop the practice of checking your SIU email account often after you register for classes.
- Submit the immunization compliance form (usually available 90 days before semester begins).
- Send in your final transcript(s).
First Year
- Review the academic requirements for your major
- Access your Degree Works plan and audit
- Meet with your advisor to discuss second semester classes
- Access the websites for Academic Coaching, the Writing Center, and the Tutoring Center
- Attend the Student Involvement Fair
- Engage in academic discussions with instructors outside the classroom
Continuing
- Monitor course progress in Degree Works
- Explore career options, graduate school, or professional school relating to your program and interests
- Meet with your advisor to discuss goal, class, or program changes
- File FAFSA every fall
- Apply for scholarships every fall
Final Year
- Apply for graduation before the deadline to avoid additional fees
- Schedule time with the Career Development Center to assess your job search needs
- Check your Degree Works audit; alert your advisor to concerns
